HAWAII DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH LAUNCHES IMPROVED VITAL RECORDS ONLINE ORDERING AND TRACKING SYSTEM
HONOLULU – Hawaii residents can now track the real-time status of their online orders for birth certificates and marriage/civil union certificates, announced the Hawaii State Department of Health (DOH).
The department’s Office of Health Status Monitoring launched the improved online ordering and tracking system this week. The website address is https://vitrec.ehawaii.gov.
“The Hawaii Department of Health issues nearly 300,000 certified copies of birth, death, and marriage records each year, and now, all requests will be processed in a single system to better manage orders and to identify ways to continuously improve service,” said Alvin T. Onaka, Ph.D., state registrar and chief of the Office of Health Status Monitoring.
The improved system also offers online ordering with credit cards using Visa, MasterCard, Discover and American Express. Those who order certificates online have the option of receiving their orders by mail or picking them up at the Department of Health.
Certificates may be picked up at the Hawaii State Department of Health, Issuance Office, Room 103 (first floor), 1250 Punchbowl Street, at the corner of Beretania and Punchbowl Streets in downtown Honolulu, Monday through Friday, from 7:45 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. (except holidays).
The total cost for a single birth, civil union or marriage certificate is $10.00, plus a nominal $2.50 portal administration fee from eHawaii.gov for up to five copies and each five-copy increment thereafter. Additional copies of the same record can be obtained for $4.00 when placing an online order at the same time.
Vital records (birth, death, civil union, marriage, and divorce certificates) for events that occurred in Hawaii are received and preserved by the Office of Health Status Monitoring, a unit of the Department of Health. In Hawaii, access to vital records is restricted by statute (HRS §338-18). The Office of Health Status Monitoring maintains divorce records from July 1951 to December 2002. All other divorce records are kept in the court where the divorce took place. Statewide data on vital records is available at http://health.hawaii.gov/vitalstatistics/
